Unique Extras was a project that showcased the talent of people who experience disability, with the aim of getting more diversity on screen. We wanted to see the 1 in 4 New Zealanders who live with disability equally represented, so we lobbied broadcasters, ad agencies, talent agencies, and the media to drive this change. Unfortunately, the project lost funding in 2013.

Coronation Street bosses have launched a nationwide search to find a disabled actor to take on a new starring role to increase diversity on the cobbles of Weatherfield, and to give opportunities to actors with disabilities.
